Warsaw advanced 1 of 5 wrestlers through the East Chicago Central Semi-state to next week’s State Finals.
Junior 160-pounder, Jacob Linky placed third to earn his place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Linky navigated a tough first two rounds to punch his ticket with a 5-2 decision over Kamare Dunlap of Michigan City and a thrilling 10-9 decision over Andrean’s Robert Stanley. Linky dropped a 15-10 decision to tournament champion, Noah Hollendonner of Crown Point in the semi-finals, but came back in the placement round to earn a first-period pin against Nick Winland of Chesterton.
Brock Hogenson will serve as an alternate at 132. The senior started the day with a second-period pin against Coby Johns of Rensselaer Central. In the ticket round, Hogenson found himself matched up with nationally-ranked Jesse Mendez of Crown Point. Since Mendez was the tournament champion, Hogenson will be slotted in as the alternate for the semi-state.
Brock Hueber also advanced to the ticket round of the tournament at 195. Entering as a 4-seed from regional, Hueber knocked of regional champ Jevonte Williams of Merrillville by a 10-5 score. In the round-to-go, Brock fell behind 3-0 in the second period and wasn’t able to finish a late rally in the third – falling by a score of 3-2.
Warsaw was also represented by Andrew Ross at 126 and Brandon Estepp at 182.
