In a meet that featured only 8 head-to-head matches, the Warsaw Wrestling team was able to defeat Triton by a score of 45-27.
Warsaw and Triton split the head-to-heads with 4 wins each – both sides with three pins. Warsaw picked up forfeits in 4 weight classes to pull away in the team score.
Triton started with a quick 12-0 lead after a forfeit and 220 pounds and a pin at 285. The next points came from Jose Martinez who picked up a forfeit at 113 pounds.
Andrew Ross wasted little time in pinning his opponent, just 22 seconds into the match in the 120 pound matchup.
Triton regained the lead after a pin at 126 pounds.
At 132, Brock Hogenson scrapped his way to a 11-5 decision.
Triton extended their lead to 21-15 after a decision in the 138 pound matchup.
From there, Warsaw would take control.
Forfeits at 145 and 152 collected by Jacob Bass and Alex Jordan put the Tigers ahead 27-21.
Jose Grimmett moved up to wrestle in the 160 pound class and Brandon Estepp bumped up to 170. Both Tigers nailed down 32-second pins to push the score to 39-21.
Triton got another big win at 182 pounds by pin to close out their scoring, and Warsaw collected a forfeit at 195 pounds to close the night.
Warsaw and Triton’s big-men got some mat time in JV action.
In the match prior to the varsity, Kyler Denney gained a first-period pin in the 285 pound class.
Warsaw’s record is now 11-7.
Their next contest will be next Wednesday in the Tiger Den as they host Tippecanoe Valley for senior night.
