Warsaw Wrestling hosted the Plymouth Rockies in a tightly contested NLC battle on Thursday night. The Tigers battled their way to a 38-32 team victory.
The night started with the teams trading forfeits at 106 and 113.
The first match of the night saw Andrew Ross fight out a tough 6-2 decision at 120 pounds.
Plymouth earned a tech-fall at 126 to take their last lead of the night at 11-9.
Brock Hogenson took a slight lead into the second period of his match at 132 pounds before nailing down a pin for the Tigers to regain the lead at 15-11.
138 saw Plymouth pick up another 3 points in a tight contest that would set the stage for a battle at 145. Jacob Bass went into double-overtime in a back-and-forth match. A late takedown secured the victory for Bass and pushed the Warsaw lead back to 18-14.
Jose Grimmett at 152 and Brandon Estepp at 160 both picked up pins to run the lead to 29-14.
At 170, Jayton Brock found a way to scrape out a gritty 11-9 decision and a huge victory for the Tigers.
As Plymouth bumped their lineup to chase points, so did Warsaw. Plymouth picked up 6 points and a pin at 182. Brock Hueber moved up to 195 to pick up a pin and Warsaw’s final points of the dual.
A forfeit and 220 and a pin at 285 brought Plymouth closer, but the team outcome had already been decided at 38-32.
In JV action, the Tigers picked up wins from Alex Jordan at 152 and Josh Pelfrey at 160.
The win pushes Warsaw’s record to 7-5 and 2-1 in the NLC.
The varsity team will be in action on Saturday at Northridge for the Raider Duals.
The junior varsity will head to Plymouth for their individual tournament.
